hp3book So for some reason I had the urge to look at my Harry Potter books today. I got rather excited when I thought that my copy of the first book might have been a first edition.

After looking around for awhile, I discovered that the first 3 books all have “Fist published in …” in them, and there is actually a line of number that shows what edition it is.

My get rich quick plans died as quickly as they sprung up.

But then I decided to look at my other books. Turn out the Prisoner of Azkaban is actually a  First Edition, First Printing, First Issue. Plus an uncorrected text block on Page 7 and copyright Joanne Rowling (rather than JK Rowling).

I didn’t look a lot farther than that, but it looks like it might be worth a decent amount. So that’s fun.

So if you got into harry potter early, check out the copyright page of your first three books. Look for a number string – 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. If you find that, you might be in luck. =D

    I remember looking at my HP books for first editions when the 4th one came out. The first and second definitely weren’t (they were paperback anyway). I’m not sure my Prisoner of Azkaban is a first edition though – I can’t remember!

    So how much is a first edition of Harry Potter worth?

    I have a first edition of The Life of the Learned Sir John Cheke, by John Strype (1705). It’s worth a few bucks.

    Haha, I just checked mine. I only checked two but one had that 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 number string. I have no idea what that means though.
    The other was printed in Aus though.
